  1. I generally don’t like musicals, as I have a problem with the while “breaking into song” thing. It just seems so artificial, and my suspension of disbelief only goes so far. That said, there are some I like, and invariably they aren’t really “musicals” but more “operas,” where *everything* is in song, so there’s no actual dialogue. “Hamilton” is currently at the top of my list, primarily due to the variety of musical styles, the brilliant use of motifs, and ways that the music and lyrics establish a character’s personality. Before Hamilton, my favorite was “Sweeney Todd,” so you’ll see the pattern.
