  1. I sat on the floor in the corner of the library, thinking about how much of a fool I was. He wasn’t interested in me. I was kidding myself. He is probably laughing at me with his mates right this second.
Annoyed, I leant back on the bookshelf with a clunk. The clunk had not come from my hollow head… The bookcase had receded into the wall. I pushed against it lightly and it proceeded to open up into a small room. A crack of light spilled out onto the concrete floor, and trailed over to the back wall, where there hung a silver lever.
I slipped inside, closing the secret door behind me, and placed my hands on the lever. It looked rusty but it slid effortlessly. Nothing seemed to happen.
I shrugged and headed back to the door. When I pushed it open, everything was dark.
“So you found the switch to the mains?” the librarian growled.
She pushed past me and the lights beamed on, blinding me.
When they readjusted to the light, I could see him, laughing, with his friends. Why do I even bother?
