Write with Heart,
Lady Jabberwocky
They pulled off the doors of their Sahara Jeep and stowed them in the back, along side luggage and a cooler full of snacks and drinks, ready for the long road trip home.
He lit his smuggled Cuban from Canada, puffing away, as she tore down the roads of Pennsylvania and West Virginia, head back toward the South, toward home. She longed to be home, in her bed.
Suddenly, a burning sensation rolls down her back. She screams from the pain inflicted by the flames rising from her shirt.
The jeep comes to a sudden stop as she pulls to the shoulder. She jumps from the vehicle, pulling off her top, and stares at the seat.
He looks at her confusedly.
She pats her shirt, and finds a hole, burned through. He jumps from the vehicle and checks the driver’s seat. A small burn marks where the ashes had seared her and the Jeep.
Her pain subsides as she stares at his cigar, still lit, dangling from his fingers.
He checks jar back finally, a small red mark between her shoulder blades reveals the pain inflicted.
He reluctantly puts out the cigar and stows it in the glovebox for another time.
Lesson: Don’t smoke in open aired vehicles on road trips!

I’m going on a road trip,
but it’s all in my head.
My imagination
takes me places
and keeps my joy
well-fed!

Instead of hijacking your space here, instead, I opted to leave a link, I hope you don’t mind. The truth is the story is a bit long.
