Black against the white tile of the bathroom, the spider seems enormous. I rush to grab a house shoe only to find my nightmare has scampered away—probably under the sink or behind the toilet. Clutching the slipper, I spin about to see if I can find it and, after a minute’s frantic search, slowly exhale. I take my bathrobe from the hook on the door and shove my arms through the sleeves. Eight fuzzy legs scamper down my spine to the small of my back.
