NaNoWriMo: Facing Disappointment and Almost Defeat

This is becoming a miserable attempt at NaNoWriMo.

Frankly, I’m feeling disappointed. In myself and letting you guys down.

Life and work got too busy and I wanted to find the time last week, and I just couldn’t.

Unfortunate events really knocked me down.

Not going to make excuses, I dropped the ball this year.

If this blog is about the ups and downs of me being a writer, guess this is one of those downs. Maybe NaNoWriMo isn’t for me? Ugh, I hate saying that.

Sorry all the NaNo hype didn’t live up to expectations. Life is tough sometimes, huh?

And when things get tough, I’m lucky to have someone to lean on.

In a moment of defeat, my better half gave me some encouraging words, while buying me Chinese takeout.

“The whole point of this month was to get you to write.”

He’s a keeper, isn’t he? When I’m a mess, my boyfriend always manages to put things into perspective and sets thing straight. He had a point though, the real goal of NaNoWriMo was to get the ball rolling on the novel I was nervously procrastinating to write. I’m thankful for that push of motivation that NaNo gave me.

So, all hope is not lost. There’s always time to keep writing, right?

I’m reworking my goals here, something more manageable. Finding the time for both my freelance writing and fiction writing will be a challenge, but it’s a challenge worth taking.  I may not make the deadline, but I will keep writing. And that’s whats important.

Guess we’ll see how November ends for me. Good luck to all the writers thriving in NaNoWriMo. Go on without me!

Write with Heart,

Lady Jabberwocky

  1. Oh gosh, I failed so many times before finally winning my first year. But each time I always, always had more words than I started with. And it forced me to think of a novel or book in progress. I got there, eventually. And so can you. And you already seem to have my own fourth top tip! 🙂

    1. Thank you so much for your encouraging words! Frankly, I was feeling a bit disappointed for not reaching 50k, but you are absolutely right, at least I wrote something! Your comment really brightened my day, so thank you again, you are very kind. 🙂 ❤
